Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain an optical magnetic recording medium easy for tracking of optical beam in reading and writing, by alternately arranging the area different in coercive force, in an optical mangetic recording medium of vertical magnetization system.
CONSTITUTION: On a substrate 3 like glass, GdFe and TbFe are vapor-deposited to form an amorphous alloy thin film 12 having an easy magnetizing axis 13 toward vertical direction to the film surface. Next, the thin film 12 is irradiated and swept with a laser beam having 50W500mW of power and heat treatment is made so that the part is made with small coercive force Hc and with almost no residual magnetization. A laser beam irradiated part 14 (hatched part) is apparatly zero for magnetization 4 to be an optical guide area 14, and the nonirradiated part (white part) is in a memorized area 10 which can take a binary value of upward and downward magnetization, to form an optical magnetic recording medium 9 with such areas.
