Abstract

PURPOSE:To eliminate a power source for coil, by distributing a permanent magnet that can be moved or rotated and a light converging lens to make them opposite to each other with respect to on a magnetic thin film. CONSTITUTION:The following devices are used: a light source 3, a light converging lens 4, a focus control coil 5 which moves the lens 4 to adjust its focus, a recording medium base 6, a magnetic thin film 7, a miniature permanent magnet bar 8, and a motor 9 respectively. The laser beam is irradiated at the area of the film 7 to be erased to heat it up, and thus the temperature at the part to be erased is increased higher than the Curie point. At the same time, the magnet bar 8 is moved or rotated to set the size of the magnetic field at the part to be erased larger than the critical erasion magnetic field and less than the coersive force of the film 7 and in the direction adverse to that of the recording mode. In such way, when the temperature reduces at the part to be erased, the direction of magnetization at that part is reversed and fixed. Thus erasion of recording is possible.
