Abstract

PURPOSE:To erase information by inverting the direction of an established magnetic field while recording information by magnetizing a magnetic recording track in the magnetic field established by an external coil 21 by increasing the temperature of the track above the Curie point by laser light irradiation. CONSTITUTION:Laser light 15 emitted from a laser light source 9 passes through beam splitters 10 and 11 are reflecting mirrors 13 and 14 to form a pair of linear deflected fluxes. Those fluxes are made incident to a magnetooptical storage disk 28 by way of a mirror 18, a lambda/4 plate 19 and a diaphragm lens 20 and, after passing through the disk, made incident to a photodetecting element 24 by way of a condenser lens 22 and an analyzer 23. An information signal is applied to a modulator 12 to control the intensity of the linear polarized light 17, thereby increasing the temperature of a recording track above or below the Curie point. A shift of a spot from the track is corrected by turning the mirror 18 or by moving the diaphragm lens 20 horizontally, and defocusing is corrected by moving the lens at right angles.
