Abstract

PURPOSE: To make it possible to enhance a recording density considerably by providing an auxiliary magnetic pole to converge the magnetic flux given to a recording medium.
CONSTITUTION: The laser light from light source 4 is given to half mirror 6 through light modulation unit 5 and polarizer 51 and is reflected and is given to the surface of magnetic thin film 2 through lens 7. When the laser light is focused on thin film 2, the spot part is heated to lower coercive force. Under this state, when a magnetic field corresponding to a recording signal is generated from coil 10, the magnetic flux dependent upon the magnetic field magnetizes the part of thin film 2, thus recording prescribed information. In this case, the generated magnetic flux of coil 10 is converged to the part of very narrow ferromagnetic material 14 of auxiliary magnetic pole 11 and is given to the heated part of thin film 2 from the vertical direction. Consequently, even if the heated part of the laser light spot focused on thin film 2 has a spread, the magnetized region is limited to a very narrow part of magnetic material 14 of magnetic pole 11, so that the recording density can be enhanced considerably.
