Abstract
PURPOSE:To facilitate the track control and the focus control, by forming a vertically magnetized film on a substrate and forming an opaque film on this vertically magnetized film and providing windows for transmission of light in the opaque film. CONSTITUTION:A vertically magnetized film B is stuck to the first face of a substrate A, and an opaque film C where bits having a short diameter D are provided continuously on all of the surface is stuck to the film B. The short diameter D has a size of the wavelength of recording and reproducing light beams approximately. In case of recording, only bit parts of the magnetized film B are magnetized and inverted by heating of the laser beam modulated by recording information. That is, the temperature of the medium is raised up to the Curie point by the laser beam, and simultaneously, the medium is magnetized by the magnetic field. In case of reproducing, the laser beam is irradiated to pertinent bits, and a reproduced signal is obtained on a basis of the change of the polarization state of the reflection light or the transmission light due to the magnetization direction of the magnetized film B.
