Abstract
PURPOSE:To obtain the titled joint member having excellent joint strength and reliability, by joining a ceramic member having a protrusion with a metallic member having a recess interposing a material having low elastic modulus between the tip of the protrusion and the bottom of the recess. CONSTITUTION:A recess is formed at an end of a metallic member 14, the bonding surface 19 in the recess is plated with Ni, a material 10 having low elastic modulus is placed on the bottom 16 of the recess and a solder containing an active metal (e.g. Zr) is placed on the elastic material 10. Separately, graphite is applied to the tip surface 13 of a protrusion 12 of a ceramic member 11. The protrusion 12 of the ceramic member 11 is inserted into the recess of the metallic member 14 to form a joining assembly of the ceramic member 11 and the metallic member 14. The assembly is heated at a temperature above the melting point of the solder in vacuum or in an inert atmosphere to melt the solder. The assembly is cooled after the gap between the outer circumference 18 of the protrusion 12 and the inner surface of the recess 19 is filled with the molten solder.
