Abstract

PURPOSE:To reduce the load of a thrust bearing and to prevent the burning by using Meissner effect of a superconductor provided on a thrust runner opposing to the magnetic force of a permanent magnet placed to the thrust bearing. CONSTITUTION:A thrust collar 4 of a rotary shaft 3 of a vertical shaft rotary motor is housed in a bearing oil tank 5 in which the lubricating oil 6 is stored, the thrust runner 7 is immersed into the lubricating oil 6, then a thrust bearing supports the load. A superconductor 10 consisting of Nb3Sn, NbTi, etc., is provided on the lower surface of the thrust runner 7 and cooled, then the superconductive state is obtained. On one side, a permanent magnet 9 is provided on the surface opposed to the superconductor 10 of the thrust bearing 8. Repulsion is produced between the permanent magnet 9 and the superconductor 10 by Meissner effect, and the load applied to the thrust bearing 8 is reduced.
