Abstract
PURPOSE:To manufacture a zinc-base alloy for casting capable of providing a casting excellent in castability, having high mechanical strength, and minimal in pinholes, by incorporating specific percentages of Al, Cu, Mg, and Co to Zn. CONSTITUTION:A zinc-base alloy having a composition consisting of, by weight, 3-5% Al, 2.5-7% Cu, 0.01-0.3% Mg, <=0.4% Co, and the balance Zn with inevitable impurities is prepared. When a metal mold for casting is manufactured by using this alloy, injection molding of >=about 50,000 shots is made possible and also pinholes are reduced, and accordingly, the resulting metal mold can be satisfactorily used as a regular mold for multikind and small-quantity production.
