Abstract

PURPOSE: To manufacture a spheroidal graphite cast iron improved in mechanical properties at a low cost, by incorporating specific percentages of C, Si, Mn, P, Ni, Cr, and Mg to iron and also specifying CE value.
CONSTITUTION: A spheroidal graphite cast iron which consists of, by weight, 3.0W4.0% C, 1.5W2.3% Si, <0.3% Mn, <0.03% P, 0.5W2.0% Ni, <0.10% Cr, 0.02W0.06% Mg, and the balance iron with inevitable impurities and in which CE value is regulated to 3.9W4.6% is prepared. Moreover, Bi is added, if necessary, to the above molten metal by 0.005W0.03%, and inoculation is carried out simultaneously with the Bi addition or after the Bi addition so as to regulate the number of graphite grains to ≥300 piece/mm2 and also to regulate the residual Bi content to 0.0015W0.015%. By this method, the spheroidal graphite cast iron having superior tensile strength, elongation, and impact value in the as-cast state and further improved in impact value at low temp. when heat treated can be obtained.
