Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain an inexpensive, highly reliable encoder device and to improve its frequency characteristics by reading the incremental phase signal of a signal track and the origin phase signal of a moving body by two sensors according to the movement of the moving body and outputting plural signals with a phase difference or obtaining the origin phase signal. CONSTITUTION:The moving body has the continuous constant-pitch incremental phase signal 16 recorded on the signal track 15 and the origin phase signal 17 indicating a specific position is recorded. Then 1st sensor 1 reads the signal 16 to obtain plural output signals which have the phase difference and the 2nd sensor 2 reads the signal 17. Then a multiplying circuit increases the number of pulses by (m) times (m>=2) from the output signal of the sensor 1 and outputs two incremental signals which are 90 deg. out of phase with each other, and a period converting means performs conversion to the origin signal having pulse width <=1.5 time the period of the incremental signal with the output signal of the multiplying circuit and signal 17.
