PURPOSE:To produce a long sized oxide superconductor having high mechanical strength by compression-molding a compound body consisting of raw material powder for an oxide superconductor, ceramic fiber, carbon fiber, and metal fiber, then heat-treating the molded product. CONSTITUTION:Raw material powder of each BaCO3, Y2O3, and CuO mixed in a compositional ratio corresponding to, for example, (Y0.4Ba0.6)3Cu3O7 when it is transformed to oxide by heat-treatment, is mixed with alpha-alumina fiber (as an example of ceramic fiber). Aq. soln. of PVA is added to the mixture as binder, and a compound body is obtd. by stirring and mixing the soln. sufficiently. Then, obtd. compound body is compression-molded to a linear product having a desired shape, and the product is heat-treated at a necessary temp. for a necessary time in O2 atmosphere. By this method, a sintered compound oxide superconductor is obtd. A section of the superconductor comprises a mother phase consisting of an oxide superconductor 2, in which alumina fibers 1 are buried, and major portion of the alumina fibers is oriented in the longitudinal direction of the linear molded material.
