Abstract
PURPOSE:To obtain a dense oxide superconductor having high strength and current density, by sintering an oxide superconductor raw material powder with a hot-press and heat-treating the sintered product in air or in an oxygen atmosphere. CONSTITUTION:An oxide superconductor raw material powder such as a Y- Ba-Cu-O composition is sintered with a hot-press. The hot-pressing is preferably carried out at 750-950 deg.C and >=20MPa pressure. The sintered product is heat- treated in air or in an oxygen atmosphere preferably at 700-1,000 deg.C to obtain the objective dense oxide superconductor. The product has improved density by the sintering process using a hot press. Although a densified sintered material is liable to be converted into a tetragonal crystal form, phase-transition of the material to a rhombic crystal system can be carried out by the heat- treatment in hot air or oxygen to obtain a superconductor having excellent characteristics.
