Abstract
PURPOSE:To obtain a superconducting ceramic having high critical temperature and large critical current level, by heat-treating powder of (rare-earth element)- Ba-Cu-O in an oxidizing atmosphere at a temperature lower than the sintering temperature, forming the heat-treated powder and baking the formed product. CONSTITUTION:Powder having the composition expressed by formula RBa2Cu3 O7-x (R is rare-earth element selected from Nd, Gd, Dy, Ho, Er, Yb, Y, Tm, Lu and Eu; x<1) is prepared beforehand. The powder is heat-treated in an oxidizing atmosphere at a temperature lower than the sintering temperature. The annealed powder is formed to a prescribed form and sintered in an oxidizing atmosphere to obtain a superconducting ceramic. Oxygen can be easily diffused into the powder by the powder-annealing process to give a superconducting ceramic having large critical current level.
