Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a superconducting material having excellent superconductivity with hardly any oxygen defects on the surface layer part, by implanting ions in a superconducting material having a specific composition using an ion implanting method and heat-treating the resultant material in an oxidizing atmosphere. CONSTITUTION:Powder of compounds, such as oxides, hydroxides, carbonates, nitrates or oxalates, of component elements having <=10mu particle diameter are mixed at desired ratio, sintered at 800-1,000 deg.C in air or under a suitable O2 partial pressure for several hr - several tens of hr, then repowdered, formed into a desired shape and resintered to afford the aimed superconducting material expressed by the formula (alpha is Y, Nd, Sm, Eu, Gd, Dy, Ho, Er, Tm, Yb or Lu; 0<x<1; 0<=y<=2; 0.5<=z<=3). Oxygen ions are then implanted in the surface of a raw material consisting of the above-mentioned material at 10keV-1MeV acceleration energy under a high vacuum of 10<-6>-10<-8>Torr so as to provide about 10<15>-10<18> ions/cm<2> and enter to about 3mu depth from the surface. The resultant material is subsequently heat-treated at a lower temperature than that in the above-mentioned sintering in an oxidizing atmosphere for 1min-10hr.
