PURPOSE:To develop a magnetostrictive material having excellent strength, having high magnetostriction ratio in a high magnetic field and low magnetic field and having excellent corrosion resistance by producing the alloy having the compsn. contg. specific ratios of rare earth elements, iron group metals and Zn by a melting method, sintering method, etc. CONSTITUTION:The alloy contg. one or more kinds among rare earth elements (R), one or more kinds among iron group elements (T) such as Fe, Ni, Co, etc., and Zn in such a manner that the compsn. expressed by the generated formula 1 is satisfied or contg. rare earth elements (R), iron group elements (T), Zn and transition metals (M) except Zn in such a manner that the compsn. expressed by the formula II is satisfied is produced by the melting method or powder metallurgy, etc. In this way, the titled material having high saturation magnetization and specific permeability, having high magnetostriction ratio in the low magnetic field and high magnetic field at ordinary temp. and having excellent corrosion resistance can be obtd.
