Abstract

PURPOSE: To manufacture a sintered permanent magnet alloy with high coercive force and high maximum energy product by heat treating a magnet alloy consisting of a rare earth element, Fe, Zr and Co under specified conditions.
CONSTITUTION: This alloy consists of, by weight, 22W28% R(R is a rare earth element), 5W25% Fe, 0.2W5% Zr and the balance essentially Co. ≤5% Cu may be substituted for part of the Co. Said components are blended and melted to prepare an alloy. The alloy is pulverized and press-molded in a magnetic field having ≥about 5,000, preferably ≥7,000 Oe intensity. This molded magnet alloy is subjected to primary sintering at 1,100W1,250°C in an inert gas and secondary sintering at a temp. of 1,150W1,260°C and above the primary sintering temp., and the sintered alloy is isothermally treated at 400W750°C for ≥ about 1hr and slowly cooled from 600W1,000°C to 300W600°C to obtain a permanent magnet alloy.
