Abstract

PURPOSE:To save a radioactive material adsorbent by cleaning the used radioactive material adsorbent with a sulfuric acid soln. and reusing the same. CONSTITUTION:The radioactive material adsorbent 2 in a column is laminated in packed layers 3 of upper, middle and lower stages 3A, 3B, 3C. The adsorbent 2 adsorbs the radioactive material from the radioactive fluid flowing therethrough and the radioactive fluid which is thereby decreased in the dose is discharged from an outlet 1b. The adsorbent 2 packed in the respective packed layers 3 increases its adsorption dose by adsorbing the radioactive material in the fluid. Said adsorbent is handled as the used radioactive material adsorbent 2a after a prescribed volume of the radioactive fluid is passed therethrough. The radiation dose of the adsorbent 2a exhibits a max. value in the upper layer 3A near the inlet 1a and a min. value in the lower layer 3C near the outlet 1b. Since the adsorbent 2 packed in the upper layer 3A has a high dose, the adsorbent is subjected to a prescribed treatment and is stored as the radioactive waste. The adsorbent 2a in the middle and lower layers 3B, 3C has a relatively low dose and is, therefore, cleaned with the sulfuric acid soln. to decrease the dose. The cleaned adsorbent is reused as the regenerated adsorbent. The adsorbent 2 is thus saved.
