Abstract
PURPOSE:To mitigate the water hammer phenomenon at the exhaust completion by providing an air chamber with an orifice section squeezing the flow cross section of a fluid on an exhaust port communicated to a pump casing or a discharge pipe and connecting an exhaust pipe to the upper section of the air chamber. CONSTITUTION:A pump is started, with a discharge valve 6 fully closed, the compressed air fed to the pump and a discharge pope 5, and the water level depressed below an impeller 1 at the time of its start. When the rotating speed of the pump is sufficiently increased, exhaust valves 9, 9' of exhaust pipes 8, 8, are opened, the air in the pump and the discharge pipe 5 between the pump and discharge valve 6 is exhausted, and the discharge valve 6 is opened when the exhausting is completed to start the water feed operation. An air chamber 10 communicated to the discharge pipe 5 via an orifice 10a is provided at the top section of the discharge pipe 5, the exhaust pipe 8 is connected to the upper section of this air chamber 10 via an exhaust pipe inlet 10b, thereby the quick rise of the pressure in the pump is mitigated at the time of the exhaust completion.
