Abstract

PURPOSE: To prevent generation of cavitation by sealing pressurized gas into a surging tank and allowing the pressurized gas to expand when the pump suction pressure reduces sharply.
CONSTITUTION: As the suction pressures of water feeding pumps 4A, 4B, and 4C are high in normal operation state, a change-over valve 16 is closed through a pressure introducting pipe 18, and the pressurized gas in the upper part of a surge tank 12 is compressed by the fluid pressure in a pressuerizing pipe 13. When the functions of condensing pumps 9A, 9B, and 9C are lost, and the suction pressues of the water feeding pumps 4A, 4B, and 4C reduce lower than the initial value P1, then the pressurized gas in compression state in the upper part of the surge tank 12 expands immediately in correspondence to the reduction of the suction pressure, so reduction of the suction pressure is restricted, and generation of cavitation can be prevented.
