Abstract

1485095 Centrifugal separators DORNIER GmbH 2 Dec 1975 [14 Dec 1974] 49433/75 Heading B2P A separator for removing dissolved gases from hydraulic fluid incorporates a chamber 8 which receives fluid from an inlet pipe 4 via a sharp-edged orifice place 10, the fluid passing around the chamber in a helical path and then flowing through a filter 20 and channel 26 to an outlet 28. A rotary pump 24 driven by a turbine 32 pumps the fluid from the outlet. In operation, hydraulic fluid from a supply line D, Figure 2, flows to a consumer V and returns along line R. The separator is arranged in parallel to line R on a branch line R 1 , and the turbine is driven from a branch D 1 from the supply line. Fluid entering the separator initially fills the chambers 8 and 38 (the turbine is not yet operating) and causes a float 40 to close a valve 46. The resulting pressure rise opens shut-off valve 54 (to start the turbine) and closes shut-off valve 70. When the fluid supply is shut off, the valve 70 can re-open to vent the chamber 38 to atmosphere and release the separated gases.
