Abstract

PURPOSE:To avoid unnecessary measuring operation, by providing a control means starting measurement on the basis of the output of a detection means for detecting that a probe approaches a living body. CONSTITUTION:The laser beam emitted from a beam source 4 is emitted to the outside through a probe 1. When a certain object S approaches the probe 1 or is brought into contact therewith, the scattering beam thereof returns to the probe 1 and passes through a beam receiving fiber 3 to be converted to an electric signal by a photoelectric detector 5 and said signal passes through an amplifier 6 and is separated to be inputted to a data processing part 7 and a high-pass filter 8. The AC signal passed through the high-pass filter 8 is rectified by an absolute value circuit 9 and converted to a stable signal by an integrator 10 to be inputted to the data processing circuit 7. When this input signal exceeds a certain definite value, it is judged that the object S being a living body approaches and a control circuit 12 receiving the signal outputs an order signal for starting measurement. When a usual measuring state is restored, the data processing part 7 processes the signal from the amplifier 6 to calculate a blood flow value to display the same on the display part 11.
