Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a flexible light transmission fiber which has good light transmittability and is not degraded in the light transmittability even after long-period use at and under a high temp. and high humidity by using an n-butyl methacrylate polymer for a core component polymer. CONSTITUTION:The amt. of a suspension dispersant to be incorporated into the polymer essentially consisting of the n-butyl methacrylate is confined to <=2ppm in the case of producing the light transmission fiber made of the polymer essentially consisting of the n-butyl methacrylate as the core component and a transparent polymer having the refractive index smaller by at least 3% than the refractive index of the core component as a cladding component. The n-butyl methacrylate polymer of the core component is obtd. by suspension polymn. of a polymerizable monomer essentially consisting of the n-butyl methacrylate by using a polymn. initiator, chain-transfer agent and suspension dispersant in an aq. medium. The stationary production of the light transmission fiber having the excellent flexibility is thereby enabled and the light transmission fiber which is not badly degraded in the light transmittability even after the long-period use at and under the high temp. and high humidity is obtd.
