Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain the titled polymer having high refractive index and excellent colorlessness and transparency and useful for lens, optical fiber, optical disk, film, ornament or molded article for building material, by using a specific polymerizable monomer as an essential component and polymerizing the monomer. CONSTITUTION:The objective polymer can be produced by using (A) a polymerizable monomer of formula I (R1 is H or CH3; R2 is 1-4C alkyl or halogenated alkyl; X is CH2 or CH2CH2; Y is halogen other than F; l is 1-2; m and n are 0-3; 1<=l+m+n<=4) [e.g. 2-(meth)acryloyloxymethylthiophene of formula II] as an essential component and carrying out radical polymerization of the component A and, as necessary, (B) other radically copolymerizable monomer (e.g. methyl methacrylate). The monomer of formula I is obtained by converting a thiophene derivative of formula III into (meth)acrylic acid ester.
