Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a polymer having high refractive index and excellent colorlessness, transparency, heat-resistance and machinability and useful for lens, optical fiber, optical disk, film, etc., by using a polyfunctional thio(meth)acrylate as an essential component and polymerizing the monomer. CONSTITUTION:The objective polymer can be produced by using (A) a polyfunctional thio(meth)acrylate [e.g. S-acryloyloxyethyl thio(meth)acrylate of formula (R is H or CH3) as an essential component and carrying out radical polymerization of the component A and, as necessary, (B) other radically copolymerizable monomer (e.g. methyl methacrylate). The monomer of formula I is obtained by converting the thiol corresponding to the ester part into (meth) acrylic acid ester.
