Abstract
PURPOSE:To improve the reliability of a metal stock, by applying a diffusion accelerator, such as bituminous material, to the surface of an aluminum coating layer formed on the metal surface and then subjecting the above to heat treatment so as to shut off the metal from the outside by means of a diffusion alloy layer with superior adhesive strength. CONSTITUTION:A coating layer of aluminum is formed on the surface of a metal requiring shutting-off from the outside, such as copper, steel, and stainless steel. It is preferable to form this coating layer to about 100-500mu thickness by means of thermal spraying or plating. Subsequently, a bituminous material or its equivalent diffusion accelelator is applied to the surface of the above coating layer. As this diffusion accelerator, bituminous paint or water-soluble silicone oil is suitably used. Then, the coating layer is heated up to about 600-850 deg.C via the above coated surface by using a heating means such as gas burner torch. By this heating treatment, the diffusion alloy layer consisting of an intermetallic compound between base metal and aluminum and having superior adhesive strength can be formed.
