Abstract

PURPOSE:To coat a substrate with titanium carbide without deteriorating the strength of the substrate by a method wherein the quench-hardenable type alloy is heated for hardening, then quenched and is thereafter coated with titanium carbide by activated reaction type vapor deposition at a tempering temperature for the alloy. CONSTITUTION:The quench-hardenable alloy is heated for hardening, and then quenched. Thereafter, the alloy is coated with titanium carbide by the activated reaction type vapor deposition at the tempering temperature for the alloy.
