Description

【発明の詳細な説明】 〔産業上の利用分野〕 本発明は熱可塑性樹脂成形体の溶着方法に関し、特に誘
電損の小さい熱可塑性樹脂の成形体を高周波溶着する方
法に関する。
〔従来の技術〕
ポリエチレン、ポリプロピレン、ポリエステルなどの熱
可塑性樹脂の成形体やフィルムを用いてカップや袋等を
製造する場合、成形体やフィルム等の溶着方法としては
発熱体を用いる熱溶着が最ヒートシールは困難であり、
特に厚肉成形体やフィルムにおいて加熱時間が長いなど
、生産性に劣るという欠点があった。
そこで、発熱体を用いる熱溶着方法に代わる方法として
高周波により熱可塑性樹脂の成形体やフィルム自体を発
熱せさる内部発熱方式が近時行われるようになった。こ
の内部発熱方式による溶着は、熱溶着すべき部分を効率
よく発熱させることができるため、均一な溶着が可能で
あり、しかも溶着部分のシール強度が大きいという特色
があるしかし、ポリエチレン、ポリプロピレン、ポリエ
ステルなどの非極性熱可塑性樹脂は電気的内部発熱が十
分でないため、通常の方法では内部発熱方式による溶着
を適用することができない。
このため非極性熱可塑性樹脂成形体に誘電損の大きな極
性熱可塑性樹脂成形体を被覆し、高周波加熱することに
より溶着する方法が提案された(特開昭51−1197
71号、同55−59921 号、同55−13392
0号、同55−150321号)。また、極性熱可塑性
樹脂成形体を被覆する代わりに、溶着部外面に極性物質
を塗布し、高周波溶着する方法も提案された(特開昭5
8−217319号)。さらに熱可塑性樹脂に高周波エ
ネルギー吸収物質を分散した非導電性体の高周波による
接着方法であって、極性基を有する樹脂で高周波エネル
ギー吸収物質を予め表面処理してから非磁性熱可塑性物
質に分散することを特徴とする方法も提案された(特開

〔発明が解決しようとする問題点〕
しかしながら、非極性熱可塑性樹脂成形体に誘電損の大
きな極性熱可塑性樹脂成形体を被覆して高周波溶着する
方法では、誘電損の大きな極性熱可塑性樹脂成形体を被
覆する工程を要するために全体として溶着工程が煩雑と
なる。同様に溶着部外面に極性物質を塗布して高周波溶
着する方法も、塗布工程があるために全体として溶着工
程が煩雑となり、溶着コストが高くなる。さらに予め表
面処理した高周波エネルギー吸収物質を分散する方法も
煩雑である他に、被溶着成形体の物性が低下するという
問題がある。その上これらの従来技術の方法ではシール
の剥離強度を調節することが必ずしも容易ではない。
従って、本発明の目的は高周波により加熱し得る極性熱
可塑性樹脂を被覆あるいは塗布したり、高周波エネルギ
ー吸収物質を分散したりすることなく、誘電損の小さい
熱可塑性樹脂の成形体を直接高周波溶着する方法を提供
することである。
さらに本発明の目的は、所望の剥離強度を得るように調
節するのが容易な高周波溶着方法を提供することである
〔問題点を解決するための手段〕
上記目的に鑑み鋭意研究の結果、本発明者は高周波用電
極を加熱することにより誘電損の小さい熱可塑性樹脂の
成形体でも高周波溶着をすることができ、かつ加熱温度
を調節することにより容易に剥離強度を調節することが
できることを発見し、本発明に想到した。
すなわち、誘電損の小さい熱可塑性樹脂成形体を高周波
溶着する本発明の方法は、一対の電極間に前記熱可塑性
樹脂成形体をはさみ、かつ前記電極の温度を40℃乃至
前記熱可塑性樹脂の融点より20℃小さい温度の範囲内
で調節し、もって前記成形体の剥離強度を調節すること
を特徴とする本発明の高周波溶着方法により誘電損の小
さい熱可塑性樹脂を溶着することができる。誘電体に高
周波の電界を印加すると、誘電分子が電界の作用で運動
し摩擦抵抗に似た分子間結合力の抵抗に依って誘電損が
生じ発熱する。従って、誘電損の小さい樹脂程高周波に
よる発熱が小さい。誘電損が小さい熱可塑性樹脂は一般
的に非極性の熱可塑性樹脂であり、例えばポリエチレン
やポリプロピレン等のポリオレフィン、ポリエチレンテ
レフタレート等のポリエステル、フッ素系樹脂、ポリカ
ーボネート、ポリスチレン等である。誘電損の小さな熱
可塑性樹脂の成形体はシート状、フィルム状又は容器状
等いずれの形態でもよくその溶着部は通常の高周波溶着
に適する厚さであればいかなる厚さでもよい。
上記誘電損の小さな熱可塑性樹脂の溶着に用い高周波は
、40.46〜41.14 MHz程度の周波数で2.
0〜5.OKW程度の出力のものである。高周波用電極
の剥離強度のレベル、電極の加熱温度及び溶着する物質
の重量の多少により異なるが、一般的に2〜10秒間程
度である。
高周波用電極の加熱は誘電損の小さな熱可塑性樹脂の溶
着を可能にするために必要である。加熱温度は溶着する
熱可塑性樹脂の種類、成形体の厚さ、高周波の出力及び
照射時間、及び所望の剥離強度の大きさ等により異なる
が、一般的には40〜150℃の範囲内である。加熱温
度の上限は熱可塑性樹脂の融点より20℃以上低い温度
であり、それより高くなると剥離強度の調節が困難とな
る。一方下限は40℃で、それより小さいと高周波溶着
ができない。具体的にはポリエチレンの場合、加熱温度
は40〜90℃の範囲であり、ポリプロピレンの場合5
0〜95℃の範囲であり、ポリエステルの場合90〜1
50の範囲である。
熱可塑性樹脂成形体の高周波溶着は一対の電極間にはさ
んで行うが、この際成形体が相互にある程度の圧力で密
着していればよく、特に圧着する必要はない。
〔作用〕
誘電損の小さな熱可塑性樹脂の成形体の高周波溶着が電
極の加熱により可能となる理由は必ずしも明らかでない
が、高周波の出力を一定にして電極温度を上げると、電
子放射量(電流)が増大し、分子摩擦熱による内部発熱
が増加するとともに、電極からの熱伝導も加わるためで
あると考えられる。電極温度を低下させると、内部発熱
量が低下し、その結果剥離(接着)強度も低下する。こ
のため電極温度を適当に調節することにより、剥離強度
を任意に調節することができる。
〔実施例〕
本発明を添付図面を参照して、詳細に説明する第1図は
本発明の高周波溶着方法を実施するための装置の一例を
示す概略図である。溶着装置1は上部電極2と下部電極
3とを有し、上部電極2と下部電極3との間に高周波溶
着すべき熱可塑性樹脂成形体く本実施例ではカップ)4
の被溶着部5が挟まれる。上部電極2及び下部電極3は
それぞれ発振器6と接続しており、発振器6はチョーク
コイル7を介して高圧電源8に接続している。
第2図は溶着装置1の上部電極2の要部を示す断面図で
ある。上部電極2は第一接着面11と第二接着面12と
を有し、第一接着面11と第二接着面12との間に絶縁
筒13が設けられている。
第一接着面11用の電極14と第二接着面12用の電極
15とは上端部において接触している。上部電極2の本
体には電極加熱用コイル16.17が設けられており、
コイル16.17の上方には冷却孔18が設けられてお
り、下方には冷却用フィ ン 19が設けられている。
第3図はカップ4の溶着部を概略的に示す図である。溶
着部は第一溶着部31と第二溶着部32とからなり、そ
の間には絶縁筒13による非溶着部33がある。
以上のような構成の電極を用い、高周波溶着する場合、
まず上部電極2と下部電極3との間に二枚の溶着すべき
熱可塑性樹脂成形体をはさみ、十分に密着させる。それ
と同時に高周波を所望時間照射することにより溶着を行
う。第一接着面11と第二接着面12の温度が異なるよ
うに加熱用コイル16.17に流す電流を調節すること
ができる。それにより第一溶着部31及び第二溶着部3
2の剥離強度を異なるものとすることができる。
例えば外側の第二溶着部32の剥離強度を小さくし、内
側の第一溶着部31の剥離強度を大きくすることにより
、十分に密封されているとともに剥離が比較的容易なシ
ールとすることができる。
本発明を以下の実施例によりさらに詳細に説明する。
実施例1 低密度ポリエチレン(比重:0.92)融点=110℃
)のフィルム(厚さ200μm)を一対の電極間にはさ
み、高周波溶着を行った。照射した高周波の出力は3,
2KW、周波数は41MHz、照射時間は4.0秒であ
った。このような条件下で電極の加熱温度を60〜90
℃に変化させ、各温度における溶着部について剥離強度
を測定した。結果を第4図に示す。
第4図から明らかなように、電極の温度が上昇するに比
例して溶着部の剥離強度は上昇した。温度が90℃を超
えると完全に溶着した。これにより、電極温度を適当に
設定することにより所望の剥離強度にポリエチレンフィ
ルムを高周波溶着することができることがわかる。
実施例2 厚さ25μmのポリプロピレン(融点:170 ℃)の
フィルムを一対の電極間にはさみ、高周波溶着を行った
。照射した高周波の出力は2.5KW、周波数は41M
Hz、照射時間は4.0秒であった。このような条件下
で電極の加熱温度を55℃〜64℃に変化させ、各温度
における溶着部の剥離強度を測定した。結果を第5図に
示す。
第5図から明らかなように、電極の温度が上昇するにほ
ぼ比例して溶着部の剥離強度は上昇した。これにより、
電極温度を適当に設定することにより所望の剥離強度に
ポリプロピレンを高周波溶着することができることがわ
かる。
実施例3 厚さ10μmのポリエチレンテレフタレート (融点:
264 ℃)のフィルムを一対の電極間にはさみ、高周
波溶着を行った。照射した高周波の出力は3.5 KW
、周波数は41MHz、照射時間は4秒であった。この
ような条件下で電極の加熱温度を85℃〜110℃に変
化させ、110℃における溶着部の剥離強度を測定した
結果は1.5 Kg/cmであった。
これにより、電極温度を適当に設定することにより所望
の剥離強度にポリエステルを高周波溶着することができ
ることがわかる。
実施例4 第1図及び第2図に示す装置を用いて、ポリプロピレン
製カップ(融点=170 ℃)に厚さ50μmのポリプ
ロピレンフィルム(融点+170 ℃)を高周波溶着し
た。照射した高周波の出力は2.5KW1周波数は41
MHz、照射時間は4.0秒であった。また第一接着面
11の温度は70℃とし、第二接着面12の温度を60
℃とした。その結果、第一溶着部31及び第二溶着部3
2の剥離強度はそれぞれ1.6 Kg/cm及び0.8
 Kg/cmであった。この剥離強度はカップをレトル
ト食品用容器として使用するのに十分であり、かつ外側
の第二溶着部32の剥離強度が相対的に小さいので、蓋
の剥離が容易である。
〔発明の効果〕
以上に詳述した通り、本発明の方法により、極性熱可塑
性樹脂の被覆、塗布又は分散をすることなく、ポリエチ
レン、ポリプロピレン、ポリエステル等の誘電損の小さ
い熱可塑性樹脂のフィルム、シート、容器等のパッケー
ジシールを行うこときる。 また電極の加熱温度を調節
することにより所望の剥離強度を得ることができる。こ
のため用途に応じた剥離強度を必要とするイージーピー
ル等 に有効である。

Claims (2)

    【特許請求の範囲】
  1. (1)誘電損の小さい熱可塑性樹脂成形体を高周波によ
    り溶着する方法において、一対の電極間に前記熱可塑性
    樹脂成形体をはさみ、かつ前記電極の温度を40℃乃至
    前記熱可塑性樹脂の融点より20℃以上低い温度の範囲
    内で調節し、もって前記成形体の剥離強度を調節するこ
    とを特徴とする方法。
  2. (2)特許請求の範囲第1項に記載の方法において、前
    記熱可塑性樹脂がポリオレフィンであることを特徴とす
    る方法。
