Description

【発明の詳細な説明】 〔産業上の利用分野〕 本発明は記録紙幅を自動的に検出する印字装置に関する
ものである。
〔従来の技術〕
従来の印字装置では、手動で紙幅設定用レバーを調整す
ることによって紙幅の設定を行なっている。
〔発明が解決しようとする問題点〕
上・記従来のものでは、記録紙の変更の都度、紙幅の設
定を行なわなければならず、煩しいものであった。また
記録紙の左端を印字ヘッドの左端位置に合わせて記録紙
を設定しなければならなかった。
本発明は自動的に記録紙の位置および紙幅を検出するよ
うにしたものである。
〔問題点を解決するための手段〕
本発明は、印字ヘッドの走査と連動して走査される元の
反射率の検出装置からの出力により、記録紙とその背景
体とを識別し、記録紙の位置および紙幅を検出するよう
にしたものである。
〔実施例〕
第１図および第２図において、１は印字ヘッドで、ガイ
ド軸２上を走査されるものである。印字ヘッド１にはイ
ンクリボン３および記録紙４を挾んでプラテン５を対向
させである。プラテン５は記録紙４の背景体として、記
録紙４とは元の反射率が異なるように黒色のものを用い
ている。印字ヘッド１の前面には第１図のように反射形
の７オトセンサ６を設けてあり、プラテン５と記録紙４
の反射率の相違から記録紙４の位置および紙幅を検出す
るものである。
第３図において、７はマイコン等からなるプリンタ制御
部、８は印字ヘッドの位置カウンタで、印字ヘッドの走
査に伴りてホームポジションから計数を開始するもので
ある。９．１０はそれぞれ記録紙の左端および右端ポイ
ンタ、１１はコンパレータ、１２．１５はそれぞれ信号
立上り検出回路および信号立下り検出回路である。
つぎに動作について説明する。記録紙４のない所では、
７オトセンサ６からの元は反射率の低いプラテン５で反
射されるため反射元鷲が少なく、７オトセンサ６の出力
は低レベルになる。また記録紙４のある所では、反射率
の高い記録紙４で反射されるため反射光量が多く、フォ
トセンサ６の出力は高レベルになる。そこで第５図のコ
ンパレータ１１の基準電圧を上記両レベルのほぼ中間の
レベルに設定しておくことにより、コンパレータ１１か
らは、記録紙４のある所において出力が“１＃になり、
記録紙４を識別できるのである。
まず印字ヘッド１をホームポジションから走査させると
、これに伴りて位置カウンタ８が計数を開始し、印字へ
ラド１の位置を計数していく。ホームポジション近傍で
は記録紙４がないため、コンパレータ１１の出力は′０
″になっている。フォトセンサ６が記録紙４の左端に達
すると、コンパレータ１１の出力が′１”に立上り、信
号立上り検出回路１２から出力が発生し、このときの位
置カウンタ８の内容が左端ポインタ９に書き込まれる。
そして７オトセンサ６が記録紙４の右端を過ぎると、コ
ンパレータ１１の出力が′０＃に立下り、信号立下り検
出回路１３から出力が生じ、このときの位置カウンタ８
の内容が右端ポインタ１０に書き込まれる。
左端ポインタ９および右端ポインタ１０の内容によって
プリンタ制御部７は記録紙４の位置および紙幅を把握し
、記録紙４の適宜の位置に印字を行なう。
ところで印字中に記録紙４か破損した場合には、信号立
上り検出回路１２あるいは信号立下り検出回路１３から
の出力の発生タイミングが変わるため、記録紙４の破損
も検出することができる。
なお、フォトセンサは印字ヘッドに直接設けるのに限ら
ず、印字ヘッドに連動して走査される部材を設けこれに
取り付けるようにしてもよい。
〔効果〕
本発明によれば、光の反射率の検出装置を印字ヘッドの
走査に伴って走査させ、その出方によって記録紙と背景
体とを識別し、記録紙の位置および紙幅を検出するよう
にしたので、記録紙の紙幅を設定する必要がなくなり、
しかも記録紙をどの位置に設定しても所望する印字結果
が得られる。
さらに、印字中に記録紙が破損しても、これを検出する
ことができる。
また、記録紙の最上端を印字ヘッドに合わせた位置で記
録紙の有無を検出でき、記録紙の最上端から印字を行６
なうことができるため記録紙上下の余白部分を少なくす
ることができる。

    【特許請求の範囲】
  1. 印字ヘッドまたはこの印字ヘッドと連動して走査される
    部材に設けた光の反射率の検出装置と、この検出装置と
    記録紙を挾んで対向し、かつ上記記録紙とは光の反射率
    を異にする背景体と、上記印字ヘッドの走査に伴って上
    記検出装置から生じる出力によって上記記録紙の位置お
    よび紙幅を検出する回路とを具備した印字装置。
