On the other hand, especially in field-effect liquid crystal display devices, there is a trend in the development of liquid crystal cells for low-voltage driving, and the orientation of liquid crystal molecules changes in a lower electric field than in the past, so it is difficult to change the orientation of liquid crystal molecules due to the influence of an external electric field. As a result, the possibility that the arrangement of liquid crystal molecules is disturbed has increased. That is, there were practical problems such as the electrode pattern portion or the entire liquid crystal filled portion exhibiting a display state phenomenon due to the influence of an external electric field.

The present invention solves the above-mentioned conventional drawbacks,
The purpose is to prevent surface reflection of external light by coating the surface of a polarizing plate with an anti-reflection film, and to perform electrostatic shielding of a liquid crystal cell by forming the above-mentioned anti-reflection film with a conductive material. shall be.

The drawing shows a side view of a liquid crystal display device according to an embodiment of the present invention. As shown in the figure, a liquid crystal composition 1 is interposed between two glass substrates 2, 2'. Polarizing plates 3, 3' are arranged outside the glass substrates 2, 2', and a reflecting plate 4 is attached below the lower polarizing plate 3'. Further, an antireflection film 5 made of a conductive material is coated on the upper surface of the polarizing plate 3 by vapor deposition, dipping, sputtering, or the like to prevent surface reflection. Here, the wavelength of the incident light is λ, the thickness of the antireflection film is d, the refractive index is n,
If the refractive index of the polarizing plate is n', then a single-layer antireflection film can prevent light with wavelength λ in air if the following conditions are satisfied: d=(λ/4)/n n=√' can. In general, n≒1, so d≒λ/4
The relationship holds true. Furthermore, although the material of the polarizing plate is usually one that is sensitive to heat, such as triacetyl carbonate, it can be coated using a method such as low-temperature sputtering. Furthermore, when forming the above antireflection film using a conductive substance, a substance with a low refractive index is desired in the case of a single layer, but 1nO 2 with a high refractive index is preferable.
Even when a film is used, it is possible to form the above-mentioned antireflection film by making it a multilayer film. If this conductive anti-reflection film is grounded, static electricity can be shielded.

According to the present invention described above, an antireflection film made of a transparent conductive material is formed on the illumination light incident side surface of a polarizing plate of a liquid crystal display device, and the thickness of the antireflection film is adjusted by adjusting the wavelength of the illumination light. λ, the refractive index of the above polarizing plate
Since n' is set to approximately λ/4√n' and the anti-reflection film is grounded, it prevents reflections from the surface of the liquid crystal display and improves the visibility of displayed contents, and also provides an electrostatic shield against external electric fields. By achieving this, it is possible to prevent the arrangement of liquid crystal molecules from being disturbed by the influence of an external electric field.
