Description

【発明の詳細な説明】 〔産業上の利用分野〕 本発明は、データの記憶及び伝送装置に関し、より詳し
くは遠隔の位置においてデータを収集し、そのデータを
中央位置へ伝送するための監視装置に関する。さらに詳
述すれば、本発明による装置は１テレビ視聴者の視聴の
習慣及び視聴の好みに関するデータを収集し、かつその
データを中央位置へ伝送するためのテレビ受信機監視装
置として用いることを意図している。本発明の１つの実
施例によれば、本発明はまた個々のテレビ受信機が代替
の番組を表示するように制御できる装置に関する。
〔従来の技術〕
先行技術としては、テレビ視聴者の視聴習慣を種のテレ
ビ番組のｄ′Ｆ価の決定のために、見られたテレビチャ
ネル及び見る回数についてのデータを結局は人手で集め
るために単に現地で収集してきた。その後、ケーブル系
を通しての両方向に通信ができる有線テレビシステムに
使用する装置が現われた。代表的には、このような装置
は、ケープ計編集のために記録される。この様な装置は
過去においては、いわゆる有料テレビシステム顛使用さ
れ、料金請求の情報はケーブル系で中央位置に送られる

レビコマーシャルの有効性は、これらコマーシャルの視
聴と、視聴習慣について監視さｈているパネリスト達の
その後の購買決定とを相関させることにより監視するこ
とができる。これを達成する１つの方法は協力するパネ
リストに製品の購入について日記をつけてもらうことで
ある−０あるいは、その代わりに、ユニバーサル製品コ
ードによる自動的な精算が利用できる地域、例えば食ｔ
１品雑貨店等圧おいては、お客が品物を購入し、勘定台
で購入した製品上のニュパーサル製品コード符号に類似
した独得の走査装置域別符号でコード化されたカードを
提示する。店の計ｎ機は自動的にこのような購入データ
を保存しておくことができ、これらデータは引続いて、
その１（Ｈ入音が見たコマーシャルと相開をとるために
市場調査会社の計算機のデータベースに転送される。
コマーシャルとその有効性についての市場調査において
、代替形式のコマーシャルの有効性を評価することも時
には１【要である。これを行なう１つの方法は、有線テ
レビシステムにおいては、視聴加入者又はパネリストを
２つ又はそれ以上の群に分け、そしてこれらの種々の群
に代任のコマーシャルを見せることである。これらパネ
リストについての購入情報と彼等が見たコマーシャルと
の相関は、次に種々の形式のコマーシャルの有効性を評
価するために使用できる。更に、次のようなシステムが
提案されている。それは、有線テレビシステムにおいて
、選択された視聴加入者のテレビセットに代替の＃♀組
即ち代わりの杉弐のコマーシャルを現わすことができる
もので、この代わりの番組を受信することになっている
特定の視聴加入者の遠隔位置のアドレスを含む制御情報
をケーブルを通して送信することにより行なう。
本発明は、市場調査のような１４５用において特に有用
な改善された装置及び方法に関するが、これに限定され
るものではない。
〔発明が解決しようとする問題点〕
本発明の目的は、テレビ・視聴者の習慣及び視聴者の反
応、またはこれらの一方の遠隔監視のための装置及び方
法を提供することである。
本発明の他の目的は、各々の遠隔ユニットに、視聴者の
習慣及び′ｊＭ聴者の反応またはこれらの一方に関する
データを収集するために事象発生のつど駆動されるメモ
リを備えた装置及び方法を提供することである。
本発明の他の目的は、１つの実施例として示した、有線
テレビシステムにおける使用に限定されない装置及び方
法を提供することである。
本発明のさら圧他の目的は、遠隔ユニットを制御するた
めの制御情報が、非専用電話線によって中央位置へ通信
される装置及び方法を提供することである。
本発明のさらに他の目的は、遠隔ユニットに記憶された
視聴者の習慣及び視聴者の反応データ、又はこれらの一
方が周期的に非専用電話線によって中央位置へ通信され
る装置及び方法を提供することである。
本発明のさらに他の目的は、１つの実施例によれば代替
の番組制御情報が遠隔場所にあるメモリに記憶され、遠
隔ユニットの各々に対し番組の題利なダイナミックに割
当できる装置及び方法を提供することである。
〔問題点を解決するための手段〕 約言すれば、本発明の１つの実施例によれば、複数のパ
ネリストの位置の各々に遠隔ユニットが設けられている
。この遠隔ユニットは、各々のパネリストの位置にある
１個又は複数個のテレビセット、又は、有線テレビシス
テムの場合は、有線テレビコンバータに接続できるよう
になっている。
各遠隔ユニットは、各パネリストの位置で非専用の電話
線に接続されるための適当な変復ｆｆ’４装置をもって
いる。各遠隔ユニットは、またマイクロッ０ロセツサ、
制御メモリ及びデータ記憶メモリを含んでいる。制御メ
モリは、その遠隔ユニットのための制御情報を記憶し、
この制御情報にはダイナミックな割当情報を含んでもよ
い。データ記憶メ％　１７　ハ、事＆（１）発生により
駆動され、テレビチャネルの選択及びその時刻について
のデータを記憶し、また視聴者の反応データ等を記憶で
きる。予め選択された時刻に、各遠隔ユニットは中央位
置に対し℃電話呼出しを始め、かつそれ自身を識別させ
る。遠隔ユニットと中央位置との電話接続が成功すると
、データ記憶メモリに含まれている視聴者の習慣、反応
データ等のどのようなデータも電話線を通じて中央位置
へ送信される。次に、中央位置は、各遠隔ユニットに対
して新しい制御情報を送信する。これにはダイナミック
割当情報を含んでもよい。その新しい制御情報は遠隔ユ
ニットに記憶され、その遠隔ユニットと中央位置との次
の通信時刻まで、その遠隔ユニットを制御する。。
視聴者のための制御部が、遠隔ユニットに結合された各
テレビセット又は有線テレビコンバータと関連している
。この視聴者用制御部は、テレぎチャネル選択器及びチ
ャネルロックと非チャネルロックの両位置の間で動作す
るスイッチを含んでいる。スイッチがチャネルロック位
置にあると、テレビセットは先処選択されたどのような
チャネルに対しても同調された状態に留まるが、それ以
後のチャネル選択器の変化はデータ記憶メモリに記憶さ
れる。この特徴は、視聴者の応答、個々の視聴者の識別
等に関するデータを記録するのに有用である。
種々の実施例における本発明の他の目的、特徴及び利点
は、図面を参照した詳細な説明から明らかである。
〔実施例の説明〕
第１図を参照すると、それは本発明によるテレビ視聴者
データ収集装置のブロック図を示している。機能の点で
は、本発明による装置は、選択された協力する家庭に置
かれ、そこで起きるテレビの視聴状態を監視するだめの
いくつかの遠隔データ収集装置ン含んでいる。この情報
は受動的に収集され、そして発生の正確な時刻とともに
記憶される。予めプログラムされた時刻に、遠隔ユニッ
トは中央位置に電話し、ぞれ迄に収集したデータ即ちそ
れ以前の２４時間内に集められたデータを送信する。各
遠隔ユニットは独得の識別番号をもち、これによって中
央位置はその遠隔ユニットを識別する。
第１図に戻ると、電話ジャック１２に接続された遠隔ユ
ニット１１が示されている。中央位置１３は、遠隔ユニ
ット１１からのデータを受信ずろために設けられ、中央
位置１３への接続は、参照＠号１４で一般的に示された
非専用の電話回線網を経由して行なわれる。
ｉｌＪ　Ｒユニット１１のおのおのは、１つ又はそれ以
上のテレビ放送受信機の活動を監視できる。第１図に示
された本発明の実施例では、遠隔ユニット１１は２つの
テレビ放送受信機１６　（ＴＶす１）と１７　（ＴＶす
２）との活動な監視するように示されている。第１図に
示された本発明のこの特定の実施例においては、有線テ
レビシステムにおいて利用されるものが示されており、
この有線テレビシステムは、テレビ放送受信機１６及び
１７のそれぞれのための第１のケーブルコンバータ１８
と第２のケーブルコンバータ１９とを備えている。
これらのケーブルコンバータは、テレビ放送信号な受け
、そしてそれをテレビ放送受信機に与えるための手段を
表わしている。本発明の好ましい実施例におい℃は、デ
ータ収集装置は有線テレビシステムの場合に応用されて
いるが、本発明はそれに限定されるものではない。すな
わち、ケーブルコンバータ１８及び１９の代わりに、テ
レビ放送信号を受け取るためにアンテナ装置を備えるこ
ともできる。
第１図に示された実施例においては、視聴者用制御部２
０及び２１がケーブルコンバータ１８及び１９にそれぞ
れ関連している。各制御借用制御部はいくつかの特徴を
備えている。視聴者制御部２０は、チャネル選択スイッ
チ２２、「オフ」、「オン」及びチャネルロック（Ｃ／
Ｌ）の各位置の間で動作するもう１つのスイッチ２３、
ならびに発光ダイオード２４をもっている。同様に、視
聴者用制御部２１も、チャネル選択スイッチ２６及び「
オフ」、「オン」及びチャネルロック（Ｃ／Ｌ）の各位
置の間で動作するもう１つのスイッチ２７、ならびに発
光ダイオード２８をもっている。
各つ′−プルコンバータは遠隔ユニット１１Ｖｃ−結合
され、その制御下におかれる。このことは、第１図では
、遠隔ユニット１１とケーブルコンバータ１８とを相互
接続する制御及び読取り線２８′及び２９、さらに遠隔
ユニット１１とケーブルコンバータ１９とを相互接続す
る制御及び読取り線３０及び３１により示されている。
次に、遠隔ユニット１１に移ると、遠隔ユニット１１の
心１１残部はマイクロプロセッサ３２である。
第１メモリ装置は、４に、ＲＯＭメモリ３３の形式でも
よいが、マイクロプロセッサノ・３２と相互接続され、
マイクロプロセッサ３２のためのソフトウェア・プログ

装置が、マイクロプロセッサ３２に対し正確な時計の時
刻の情報を与えるために設りられる。
マイクロプロセッサ３２は、コンバーク・インターフェ
ース３７を介してケーブルコン７々−夕１８のための制
御及び胱取り線２８′及び２９と相互接続される。同様
に、マイクロプロセッサ３２は、コンバータ・インター
フェース３８を介してケーブルコンバータ１９のための
制御及び読取り線３０及び３１（！：相互接続される。
スイッチレジスタ３９は、マイクロプロセッサ３２に識
別番号及び中央位ｊＭの％Ｌ砧ＩＴ号を入力するために
設けられる。適当な変復調装ｊ′’ｆ、　４１がマイク
ロゾロセラ→）３２に結合され、マイクロプロセラ→）
・３２のｆｌｉ！Ｉ御の下で、非専用由；砧回線網を；
ｊｉＩして中央位１ｉｊ１３との通信が行われるように
する。
動作について説明すると、ｎｓ　１図に機能的に示され
た本発明による装置は、コンバータの状に、すσ）すべ
′Ｃの変化を、ｌｂ’ｉ刻の経過とともｌこ収１１−す
るようにプログラムされている。ケーブルコンバークの
状態は、コンバータか「オン」になってブユーニングガ
ｉ択器が１つのチャネルに最小１５ｊ（のトさの時間と
どまって接ｆｔされているか、あるい（１コンバータが
「オフ」になっているかの状ｐ、ｌ：ｉで定在される。
本装置は、ケーブルコンバーク１８又は１９のコンバー
タ状態の変化のたびに、その南１諭を表わすデータを記
憶する。蓄檀されるデータは、その新しいケーブルコン
バータチャネル及びそσつ変化の時刻である。もしコン
バークか「オフ」になると、蓄積されるチャネル街号は
０である。木に従って、収集されたデータの中に常に真
夜中にＲＬｉ録を行なう。５２　Ｋ　ＲＡ、Ｍメモリ３
４は、収集されたデータの１０，０００個のオーダーの
事象を記憶するのζこ十分である。
遠隔ユニットは一般に６つの事項を監視するループ中に
おかれるが、これらの事項は、ケーブルコンバータ１８
又は１９の状態、時計の時刻、及びスイッチレジスタ３
９の内容である。このモードでは、遠隔ユニツ１−は、
３２　Ｋ、　ＦｔＡＭメモリ３４か充満する韮で、コン
バータ状態のす秋ての変化を収ブβＬ　ｆｆ１Ｌ：憶す
ることになる。時計の時刻が監視されるのは、予め選択
された呼出時刻に達したかどうかを決定するためである
。遠隔ユニットのおのおのは独自の呼出時刻をもってお
り、これはスイッチレジスタ３９に設定されているユニ
ットＨＡＴ。
別番号に従って予め設定される。予め遮択された呼出時
刻に達すると、マイクロプロセッサ３１１ｊ変彷に’Ｍ
装ｆｉ４−４１及び非専用電話回線網１４を通して中央
位置１３への通信を行なう。
呼出操作においては、遠隔ユニットが番号をダイヤルす
るのに約２２秒かかる。１５キロバイトのデータを１２
０ｆＪ７ドーυメモリ３４から送信４−るのに約１ろ０
秒かかる。装（１１間の：、ｌ（＾・）ｊ冗ｒ丈での余
裕時間として、追加の約５秒が訂さＡビＣいる。
各遠隔ユニットは独自の呼出時刻をもっており、これは
スイッチレジスタ３９ｆこパ１−１憶され′Ｃいるユニ
ット識別蚕号により決定される３、本発明の１つの実施
例によれば、？■１メモリ装匝３３のゾロク゛ラムによ
って装置１１全体の呼出期間は午前２１１７ｒ［Ｊ分（
２：　００　ａ、ｍ、）に開始するように設定される。

時計の時刻が、時開の時刻用クロック３６ｊこより足め
られた１１＋ｊ定の遠隔ユニットのｌｒｐ出時刻に・灯
すると、マイクロプロセッサ３２は変ＩＮ　、、ＩＡＩ
　’ｌＪ：　ｉ＋イ４１そ通して中央位置−の１１＋、
話混２続るで、弐みる。それは、電話受話器を上け、ス
イッチｌ／ジスタ３９に記憶されている中央位置の電話
番号をダイヤルし、次に中央位置の変街調装藏が呼出し
に応答するのを待つこ七になる。もし遠隔ユニットか中
火　位置きうまく接続を行なうことができないき、釉、
話を切り、１６秒間待ちそして再度試みるようにプログ
ラムされている。もし、第２回の試みが失敗するき、・
嘴陥ユニットは、１１デ出時間を地方時刻よりも２時間
後に変更した後に正凡の監視モードにもどる。何故に電
話接続に成功しないことがあるかについては様々な理由
がある。中央位置が故障のこともあり、また他の遠隔ユ
ニットと交信中のこ々もある。遠隔ユニットが呼出しを
試みている時に＋ＩＡ聴者が受話器をフックから外しｒ
し４っていること等もある。
もし遠隔ユニットが中央位置との接続に成功したが次に
伺らかの理由で失敗した。！：きは、電話を切り、次に
再び′電話接続を試みる戒で、予め選定された時間、例
えば６時間待つようにプログラムされている。このこと
が起こる可能性がある理由としては、中央位置ｌこおけ
る故障か、あるいは遠隔ユニットの呼出＋＋２４間中視
聴者が自分の受請伜；を上げていることがｆまれる。
遠隔ユニットが一旦１１γ出ザイクルに入るさ、６時間
ごとに続けて繰返され、それは、遠隔ユニットが電話接
続に成功し、かつ中央位ＩＦ′１“に対してＲＡＭ　３
４内に記憶されていたデータを送イバするための通信に
成功してしまう才で続けられる。ｉｊ：ｊ　ｌ’ｌ°ｈ
ユニットは、とのＪ：うな場合でも、そのメモリが充満
してし才わない限り、ケーブルコンバータのデータの収
集を継続する。
本発明によるテレビ視聴者データ収集装置ｉ’（は独得
の！１！ｆ畝をもっており、それは視１１ζ１グ渚の１

タ１８及び１９はそれまでに選択されたチャネルに同ｉ
＋１．Ｗ　した状態に保たれ、チャネル、；へ択スイッ
チ２２及び２６の状懐をさらに変化しても変わらない。
しかし、チャネル選択スイッチ２２及び２６のその後の
変化は、発生した事象として、スイッチ２３及び２７が
チャネルロック位置にあったというノ４１実とともにＲ
ＡＭメモリ３４に記憶される。従って、この特徴は視聴
者の番組に対するｈ的評価、視聴者の家庭内における個
別の、、ｆｊＱ別、視聴者がテレビ放送受信機をビデオ
ゲーム等の表示に利用していたことの表示、及びその他
のどのような情報に関するデータをも記憶するの１こ有
用である。このデータの特定の解釈は、勿論、中央位置
における様々なチャネル選択の記入データは何を悲味す
るか、あるいは制御部がチャネルロック位置にあるとき
これらはどのように解釈されるべきかについてのＪｌｌ
’ｌ’釈に依存している。
中央位置１３におけるハードウェアの範囲は、本発明の
異なった応用に従って、簡単な非同期ＡＳＣＩＩ端末装
置から大型で複雑な計算機設備まで及ぶ。中央位置１３
は、半二重ラインの制御を含み、適当な変復調装置の制
御ができなければならない。どの１つの遠隔ユニットの
動作の点検も、変復調装置及び非同期ＡＳＣＩＩ端末装
置のみを必要とする。勿論、複数の遠隔ユニットを監視
するためのいかなる重要な自動データ記録の適用にも、
１つ以上の自動回答変復調装置と、本装置中のすべての
遠隔ユニットにより、所定の期間内すなわち２４時間内
ｔこ発生されるデータを少なくとも記憶するための十分
な補助記憶装置を持ったオンライン計算機とより成る中
央位置が必要になる。
第２図に移ると、そこには、遠隔ユニットの構成素子の
より詳細なブロック図が示されている。
第２図に示されたように、信号線２９及び３１を経由す
るコンバータ１及２からのチャネル選択Ｉこ関する読出
信号通路は、スケーリング増幅器４２及び４３を通りア
ナログスイッチ４４に至る。アナログスイッチ４４は、
コンバータ１及び２のための２つの続出信号通路の間の
切替えを行なう。
アナログスイッチ４４の出力は、マイクロプロセッサ３
２に接続された８ピツトのアナログ−ディジタル変換器
４５に入る。
マイクロプロセッサ３２からの制御情報は、１０ビット
ディジタル−アナログ変換器４６を通り、アナログスイ
ッチ４７により切り替えられ、バイアス及び利得増幅器
４８及び４９を通り、コンバータ１及び２への制御信号
線２８及び２９に至る。比較器５１は、アナログスイッ
チ４４の出力とアナログスイッチ４７０入力との間Ｃζ
相互接続されて設けられ、更にピットバッファ入力回路
５２に結合される。比較器５１の目的は、マイクロプロ
セッサ３２への１０ビツト続出入カツ、８ビツトデナロ
グーデイジタル変換器４５だけを用いて行なうことを可
能にすることである。このことは、１０ビットディジタ
ル−アナログ変換器４６の出力電圧レベルをアナログ−
ディジタル変換器４５への入力電圧レベルと比較し、か
つアナログスイッチ４４の出力電圧レベルを調節し、そ
の電圧レベルとディジタル−アナログ変換器４６の出力
′１圧レベルとを比較した結果相等しくなるまで、アナ
ログスイッチ４４の出力電圧レベルを調節することによ
り達成される。
ビットバッファ入力回路５２は、またチャネル選択スイ
ッチからの入力を緩衝し、かつ視聴者用制御部２０及び
２１のスイッチのオン・オフ機能を緩衝する。ビットバ
ッファ入力回路５２は、才だダイナミック割当トリガ入
力Ａ及びＢを受け取るように示されている。これらのダ
イナミック割当トリが入力は、市場調査目的等のために
代替番組チャネルの選択を行なわせるのに有益であり、
そしてこのようなダイナミック割当を利用する本発明の
特定の実施例について以下に述べる。
第２図の説明に戻るｃ！：、６０Ｈｚクロツク３Ｇは、
時計の時刻の指示のための１秒クロック出力を形成する
ために積分回路（カウントダウン回路）５３に入力され
る。ｉ　ＭＨｚクロック５４も、積分回路５３に接続さ
れて２ミリ秒タイミング出力信号を形成する。この積分
回路５３は番号６５２２で知られているものでよい。
マイクロプロセッサ３２は、本発明の１つの実施例にお
いては、８ピツトＭｏ５ｔｅｃ　６５０２により形成さ
れ、積分回路５３からのタイミング出力は、マイクロプ
ロセッサ３２に対するＩＲＱ及びＮＭＩ割込に結合され
るように示されている０また、第２図に示されたように
、遠隔ユニットの電源電圧低下又は電源故障の機能はマ
イクロプロセッサ３２のリセット割込に結合される。
ユニバーサル非同期受信機送信機（ＵＡＲＴ　）　５６
はマイクロプロセッサ３２を変復調装置４１に結合する
ために設けられる。本発明の１つの実施例においては、
このＵＡＲＴ　５６はＭｏｔｏｒｏｌａの積分回路番号
６８５０でよい。
ピットバッファ入出力回路５１は変復調装置４１の制御
に関連して設けられる０もし希望するならば、遠隔ユニ
ットの中央位置との通°信に関し遠隔ユニットの動作を
監視するために、発光ダイオード５８及び５９を遠隔ユ
ニットそれ自体の上の便利な場所に配設してもよく、才
た、これらの発光ダイオードはピットバッファ入出力回
路５７により駆動することができる。同様に、ピットバ
ッファ入出力回路５γは、ケーブルコンバータのために
視聴者用制御部に取り付けられた発光ダイオード２４及
び２８を駆動することができる。
本発明によるダイナミック割当の特徴の説明にもどると
、本発明の１つの実施例においては、ダイナミック割当
すなわち代替番組の情報は、各遠隔ユニットと中央位置
との間の周期的な交通の間に中央位置からメモリ３４内
に合法れた表（テーブル）の中に転送される。この表に
は、ある予め選定された時刻に、ケーブルコンバータは
、マイクロプロセッサ３２の制御の下に、代替番組を含
んでいる予め選択されたチャネルに同調するという情報
が金談れている。このやり方では、市場調査は、例えば
、１つの形式のコマーシャルを一部のパネリストすなわ
ち視聴者に表示し、そして他の形式のコマーシャルを異
なった群のパネリストに表示することにより実施できる
。これら２つの群のパネリストによる購入の決定を次々
と整理し又は相関させることにより、ある特定の形式の
コマーシャルの有効性を評価することができる。
ダイナミック割当のタイミングは、２つのやり方のうち
の１つで行なうことができる。その１つは、代替番組を
行なうべき正確な時計の時刻は、中央位置との通信の間
にメモリ３４の中に転送することができる。他のやり方
としては、代替番組すなイつぢダイナミック割当のタイ
ミングのためにコンバータに入ってくるケーブル信号の
中でトリガ信号を符号化することができる。上記の他の
やり方の実施例においては、コンバータｌこ入ってくる
ケーブル信号を受信するために、トリガ信号のための簡
単な受信機を配設し、その簡単な受信機ｌこより第２図
にビットバッファ入力回路５２に供給されるように示さ
れているダイナミック割当トリガ信号Ａ及びＢを駆動す
る。
第６図に移ると、そこには本発明の他の実施例のブロッ
ク図が示され、この場合には、遠隔位置と中央位置の間
には電話通信はない。その代イつりに、遠隔ユニット内
の変復調装置は適当なライントライバ６１により置換さ
れている。そこで、データを収集するために、周期的に
／７Ｓ遠隔位置を訪問するこさにし、カセットレコーダ
等かライントライバ６、１　に結合され、チャネルの選
択時計の時刻、チャネル・ロックの状態、視聴者の番組
の質ｌこ関する反応データ等に関するメモリ３４の内容
は、カセットレコーダ６２へ転送される。同様に、フィ
クロプロセッサの制御の下に代替−ｒｆｆ組を’＋ＨＩ
Ｊ御するために、メモリ３４に記憶するように、ダイナ
ミック割当データを、カセットレコーダ６２からライン
トライバ６１を通して転送することができる。
抛４図に移ると、それは、遠隔ユニットの主論理ループ
の動作の流れ図を示している。第１のステップは、スイ
ッチレジスタ３９を読出）−ことである。もしユニット
識別番号が零に設定されていれば、遠隔ユニットは、中
央位置をダイヤルして呼出すために接続サブルーチンに
入る。この特徴は、ｆｅｌｔば、遠隔ユニットが保持し
ているかも知れないどのようなデータをも、それが視聴
者の家力）ら取り除かれる前に遠隔ユニットをして強ｆ

遠隔ユニットの動作を中央位置において一点検するのＣ
どもＭ用である。このことは、勿論、どの遠隔ユニ゛ノ
ドも零の識別番号をもつことができなＧ）ことを意味す
る。ループの次のステップは真夜中力ζ共である状態が
存在しているかどうかを決定する。もし真夜中であれば
、真夜中を真とする事象力″−ｄ己憶される。
次ニ、遠隔ユニットは、コン７々〜夕１　ヲ点’ｃｆｋ
　するための事象サブルーチンに入り、引続Ｇ）でコン
バータ２を点検するための別の事象サブル−チンに入る
。
次の論理判断は、遠隔ユニ゛ントカー自動モード状態ｌ
こプロダラムされているかどう力′ＩＩこ関する。目動
モード状態にあるときは、遠隔ユニ゛ノドｉｔ　１３央
位置と電話通信を開始し、メモ！Ｊ３４ｉこａ己１．痘
されているいかなるデータも中央位置へ送４Ｎ−１−る
ようにプログラムされる。遠隔ユニ゛ントカタ自動モー
ドに設定されていなければ、遠隔ユニットはこのような
電話通信を開始しない。もし、自動モードが真である状
態が存在すれば、次の判断はそのユニットのための呼出
時刻であるかどうかについてである。もし中央位置と電
話通信を開始するためにその特定の遠隔ユニットに割当
てられた予め選定された時刻であるならば、接続サブル
ーチンに入うかについである。もしそうでなければ、主
ループが繰り返される。もし新（２い時計の秒であれば
、本発明の１つの実施例においては、遠隔ユニットに設
けられた発光ダイオード５８及び５９は交互に点滅され
る。
第５図に移ると、そこには接続サブルーチンか示されて
いる。接続サブルーチンｔこおける第１のステップは、
遠隔ユニットが中央位置の箪話香号をダイヤルすること
である。そして接続に成功すれば、端末装置駆動状態が
存在し、遠隔ユニットは中央位置からの命令を受取りか
つそれに応答する。もし、中央位置との良好な接続に失
敗すると、ソフトウェアの中の呼出しフラダはクリアさ
れ、２時間（又は任慧の選定された長さの時間）が加え
られ、そして新しい時刻が新しい時計の秒として記憶さ
れる。かくして、その遠隔ユニットの中央位置に対する
新しい呼出時刻は、ある所定の後の時刻、例えば６時間
後きいうように定められる。
第６図に移ると、それには事象サブルーチンの論理流れ
１図が示されている。第１の判断は、メモリか一杯であ
るかどうかであり、これはデータメモリ３４を指してい
る０もしメモリが一杯でなければ、次ｌこチャネルは変
えられたかどうかについての判断がなされる。もし、チ
ャネルが変えられたさきは、このチャネル変更は事象と
して記憶される。次に、チャネルロック状態が変化した
かどうかの判断がなされる。もし、変っていれば、チャ
ネルロックに入ったのかあるいはチャネルロックから出
たのかのいずれかをＡ”Ｕに事象として記・はする。発
光ダイオード（ＬＥＤ　）は、遠隔ユニットがチャネル
ロックに入っているときは、いつでも「オン」になるよ
うに制御される。遠隔ユニットがチャネルロックにある
とき事象が記憶されるたびに、発光ダイオードは約１秒
間点滅を止め、遠隔ユニットがチャネルロック中に事象
を捕えたことを視聴者に示す。
第７図に移ると、それには遠隔ユニットのクロック・サ
ブルーチンが示されている。クロック・サブルーチンは
、本質的には、６０■（ｚ″亀源線によりＶ工Ａカウン
トダウン回路５３を通じて駆動される割込みである。本
発明のこの特定の実施例においては、最小の繰返周波数
は１Ｈｚ、そして最大の繰返周波数は２０　Ｈｚである
。クロック・ザブルーチンは１日の終りに対して時計の
秒を更新しかつチェックする。クロック・サブルーチン
は、またアナログ・ルーチンを呼出し、割込みのたびに
、アナログスイッチ４４及び４７を介して２つのコンバ
ータを交互に動作させる。
クロック・サブルーチンの最初の判断グロックは、両ア
ナログが作動可能になったかどうかに関する。このこと
は、アナログ−ディジタル変換器４５及びディジタル−
アナログ変換器４６に関連する。もしこれらの変換器が
作動可能であれば、それは遠隔ユニットがケーブルコン
バータの状態をチェックする状態にあることを意味する
。これらのディジタル−アナログ及びアナログ−ディジ
タル変換器は、遠隔ユニットの作動について、機能点検
等のために作動不能状態にすることができる。もし両ア
ナログが作動可能にされると、次の判断は１．アナログ
スイッチ４４及び４１の制御の下ｆこ、コンバータ１お
よびコンバータ２のどちらかを次のコンバータとして選
ぶかに関する。次の制御ブロックは、１）ＥＣｐｏｓｏ
と記載されており、それは秒カウンタの部分を減少させ
ることを指している。これは、どの程度の頻度で遠隔ユ
ニットがコンバータを調べるかに関係している。例えば
、６０　Ｈｚのタイミング信号ｌこより、コンバータを
１秒間に１０回監視することを希望すれば、６を　１秒
カウンタの部分にロードし、次にそれを減少させる。次
の判断ブロックは、秒カウンタの部分が零に特しいかど
うかの判断に関する。もし秒カウンタの部分が零に等し
ければ、秒カウンタの部分に再びロードし、時計の秒を
またけ増加させる。
もし、時計の秒カウンタがあふれなければ、Ｖ■Ａタイ
マ５３は再びロードされ、割込みから装部する。時計の
秒カウンタは８６，４００に設定され、この数は１日２
４時間に対応した秒の数に相当する。従って、時計の秒
カウンタがあふれると、それは真夜中であることを示し
、新しい日が開始される。そのとき、時計の秒カウンタ
は再びロードされ、ＶＩＡタイマ５３は再びロードされ
、割込みからの復帰が行なわれる。
以上、本発明を、好ましい実施例について説明した。当
業者にとって、本発明の精神から逸脱することなく、こ
こに開示した実施例に対し多くの変更又は修正を加える
ことができることは明らかである。

  1. 【特許請求の範囲】 （１）　中央位置を含み、かつ複数のパネリストの位置
    におかれかつテレビ放送受信機に接続される複数の遠隔
    ユニットを含み、協力するテレビ視聴者又はパネリスト
    の習慣を監視するための、テレビ視聴者のデータを収集
    する装置において、前記遠隔ユニットは、 テレビ放送信号を受信するための装置 チャネル選択器並びにチャネルのロック及び非ロックの
    自位置間で動作しかつ上記のテレビ放送信号を受信する
    ための装置に結合されたチャネルロックスイッチを含む
    視聴者用制御装置であって、上記チャネルロックスイッ
    チは上記のチャネルのロック位置におい又は、その後上
    記チャネル選択器をどのように変化させても、関連した
    テレビ放送受信機を現在選択されているチャネルにロッ
    クするように機能する前記視聴者用制御装置、マイクロ
    プロセッサ、 上記マイクロプロセッサのためのプログラム情′報を記

    包含しており、更に上記マイクロプロセッサは、上記の
    予め選択された独得の呼出時刻に上記変復調装置を通し
    て上記中央位置との通信を確立し、また上記記憶装置に
    記憶されたデータを上記中央位置へ送信する機能を備え
    ている、 テレビ視聴者のデータを収集する装置。 （２、特許請求の範囲第１項のテレビ視聴者のデータ収
    集装置であって、上記テレビ放送信号を受信するための
    装置はケーブルコンバータを包含スるテレビ視聴者のデ
    ータ収集装置。 （３）特許請求の範囲第１項のテレビ視聴者のデータ収
    集装置であって、上記記憶装置はチャネル代替表を含み
    、また上記チャネル代替表の内容は、上記独得の呼出時
    刻における通信の間に上記中央位置から上記遠隔ユニッ
    トへ転送され、上記マイクロプロセッサはチャネル選択
    を制御し、視聴者が手動で選択したチャネルとは無関係
    に上記チャネル代替表に従って、予め選択された時刻に
    、代替チャネル選択を行なうテレビ視聴者のデータ収集
    装置。 （４）特許請求の範囲第６項のテレビ視聴者のデータ収
    集装置であって、上記チャネル代替表は上記代替チャネ
    ル選択のための予め定められた時計の時刻情報を含み、
    更に上記マイクロプロセッサは上記の予め定められた時
    計の時刻情報に従って代替チャネル選択を行なうテレビ
    視聴者のデータ収集装置。 （５）特許請求の範囲第６項のテレビ視聴者のデータ収
    集装置であって、上記テレビ放送信号を受信するための
    装置に結合され上記テレビ放送信号内に含まれる制御信
    号を検出するための制御信号検出装置を含み、更に代替
    チャネル選択は、上記テレビ放送信号の中の上記制御信
    号の生起に対応した予め選択された時刻に行なわれるテ
    レビ視１１１ｕ者のデータ収集装置。
