Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent semiconductor LASER from degrading or destruction, by supplying constant current into LASER, detecting optical output, and controlling temperatures so as to make constant output. CONSTITUTION:When output of a semiconductor LASER element 1 decreases, a drive circuit 11 will drive a thermal control element 10 to further decrease LASER 1 temperatures. The LASER 1 is supplied with constant current regardless of LASER temperatures by a constant current circuit 8. And so, when LASER temperatures go lower, output will go higher and controlled constantly. The control element with a use of Peltier element makes output control of the LASER temperature difference between 60 and 70 deg.C. This constitution is slow in responce speed but enables effective output control of semiconductor LASER having a factor to cause gradual output changes.
