Abstract

PURPOSE:To read a document adequately even if the form expands or contracts owing to fluctuations of temperature or humidity, by correcting format control information on the basis of a detection signal from a detector which detects temperature or humidity. CONSTITUTION:The amibient temperature and humidity of a document are detected by a temperature sensor 30 and a humidity sensor 31, whose outputs are compared with standard signals which correspond to standard temparature and standard humidity by comparing circuit 34 and 35; and a correction signal which corresponds to the comparison results is outputted by a correction signal generating circuit 36 and set in a correction signal register 37. Pieces of information L on distances from the upper end of the document to the centers of respective lines and pieces of information W on distances from a reference end to respective readout ends are set in registers 41 and 42 and multiplied by a constant which correspond to the contents of the correction signal register 37 to set the products in an L-information buffer 44 and a W-information buffer 45, thereby controlling paper feed and readout-scan width.
