Abstract
PURPOSE: To improve the signal to noise ratio by reading a noise level immediatly before a signal medium reaches a signal sensor to determine a difference from the subsequent detection output signal.
CONSTITUTION: A signal medium 1 comprising material such as sheet paper is moved through a conveying path in the direction of the arrow and a position sensor 7 and a signal sensor 2 are arranged on the path. According to detection signals from the position sensor 7, a integrating reset timing signal 8 is generated cyclically from a timing generation circuit 15 while outputs of the signal sensor 2 and fed to an integrator 5 to draw an integration signal 10 each time the signal 8 is applied. A noise level is extracted from the outputs 10 immediately before the signal medium 1 reaches the signal sensor 2 to detect a difference from the detection signal when the signal medium 1 reaches the signal sensor 2. Thus, accurate detection can be done with a higher signal to noise ratio.
