Abstract
PURPOSE: To inexpensively produce high purity hydrogen at a relatively low temp. by bringing a reducing gas contg. CO or hydrocarbon into contact with a substance prepared by adding a Pt group element to a transition metallic oxide and bringing steam into contact with the substance.
CONSTITUTION: A reducing gas contg.CO or hydrocarbon is brought into contact with a substance prepared by adding a Pt group element to ≥1 kind of transition metallic oxide selected from Mo, W, V, U, Fe and Ni oxides. The substance after the contact with the reducing gas is then brought into contact with steam to generate gaseous hydrogen. When the gas as starting material contains oxygen and steam, the reaction yield is lowered. Accordingly, when the hindering components are contained in the treating gas, it is preferable to remove them in a pretreatment process. Since such a highly active catalyst is used in this method, the preferred reaction temp. of the process is 300W500°C.
