Abstract
PURPOSE: A lower alcohol or lower ether is brought into contact with a catalyst ready to be prepared, containing a copper salt of tungsten heteropolyacid, at high temperature, preferably in gas phase to produce a product mainly composed of 2W6C hydrocarbons.
CONSTITUTION: In the catalytic production of hydrocarbons from a lower alcohol or ether, a copper salt of tungsten heteropolyacid of H(8-n)[XW12O40].xH2O or H(12-n)[X2W18O62].xH2O (n is valency of X atom; X is P, As, Si, Ge, Ti, Co, Fe, Al, Cr, Ga, Te, B; X is integer), such as copper tungstosilicate or copper tungstophosphate, is used as a catalyst. For example, the above catalyst is prepared by adding basic copper carbonate to an aqueous solution of tungsten heteropolyacid and drying up the solution by evapolation on a water bath. The carbon number of the raw material is preferably 4 or less. The reaction temperature is 250W350°.
