Abstract
PURPOSE:To economically and effecively produce a gas containing CH4, H2, CS2 and CO without resort to hydrodesulfurization process, by preparing methanol as raw material and using a prescribed catalyst to reform the methanol by steam. CONSTITUTION:Methonal and steam at the rate of about 0.5-5mol of water per gram atom of carbon of the methanol are caused to react with each other under pressure of about 1-100atm at 200-550 deg.C in the presence of a catalyst, thereby producing a methane-containing gas. The catalyst comprises 10-95wt% of the first metal oxide which is CoO, NiO or their mixture, 2-50wt% of the second metal oxide which is La2O3, Ce2O3 or their mixture and the rest of Al2O3. An aluminum-containing precipitate is produced. A precipitate containing the second metal is then produced. A precipitate containing the first metal is then produced. The first and second metals and aluminum in these three precipitates are converted into the metal oxides. The catalyst is thus manufactured.
