Abstract

PURPOSE: To cast a cast billet which has a beautiful cast billet surface and scarcely has a flaw on the surface, by pushing in the cast billet to the side of a holding furnace by a small quantity before drawing it out, in a horizontal and continuous casting method for drawing out cast iron intermittently.
CONSTITUTION: A cast billet drawing-out pattern pushes in a cast billet to the side of a holding furnace 1 by a ≤6mm stroke 9 when the thickest solidified shell 6 has been formed immediately before the push-in cycle, and moves the shell 6 to a position 8 shown by a broken line. When it moves, the shell 6 of a solidifying start part is soaked in an unsolidified molten metal, is remelted, and the solidifying start position becomes thin and high in a temperature as shown by a solidified shell 10. Therefore, when the cast billet has been drawn out by the next pattern, the unsolidified molten metal and the shell 6 are melt-stuck entirely, and a flaw on the surface becomes small. Also, when the shell 6 is pushed in, friction generated between the shell and the casting mold 3 is reduced, break- down of the thin shell 6 is scarcely seen, and generation of a double surface due to the fact that a molten metal goes into an air-gap 4 and is solidified is not seen either.
