Abstract

PURPOSE: To increase the apparent particle diameter of a mist and enhance the efficiency in removing the mist contained in an exhaust gas by a method wherein water is sprayed into the gas on the upstream side of a demister to humidify the gas.
CONSTITUTION: The exhaust gas containing the mist is directed into an exhaust pipe 1 by a fan 2, and is humidified by spraying water into the gas from a spray nozzle 8 provided in the pipe 1 on the upstream side of the demister 3. In the condition where the mist particles are converted into larger particles through condensation and collisions, the exhaust gas is passed through a fiber bed 7, where part of the mist is caught, and the residual part of the mist is easily separated from the gas by the demister 3 being provided on the downstream side of the bed 7. The mist separated from the exhaust gas by the fiber bed 7 and the demister 3 is introduced into a circulating tank 4 and is reused as spray water.
