Abstract

PURPOSE: To suppress the amount of generation of NOx in exhaust gas by installing two EGR control valves in parallel in an EGR passage and properly controlling said control valves in a prescribed operation range and permitting recirculation of a proper amount of exhaust gas, according to the engine operation state.
CONSTITUTION: In the internal combustion engine equipped with the first and the second intake ports 20 and 22 which are opened and closed by the first and the second intake valves 24 and 25 respectively, the first intake port 20 is always ON/OFF controlled, and the second intake port 22 atops operation in low speed revolution range. The first and the secong EGR control valves 86 and 88 are installed in parallel in an EGR passage 84. These valve 86 and 88 are ON/OFF controlled by allowing the intake negative pressure to be controlled by the first and the second dolenoid valves 94 and 100 which are ON/OFF controlled by a controller 64. Therefore, the second valve 88 performs control so that the turning increases mainly in high load range, and the first valve 86 is controlled so as to have a large turning in a relatively lower load range than in the case of the second valve 88.
