Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent blown-off action of an ignition flame and suppress a change of torque at operation of a low load at high speed, in an internal combustion engine equipped with low and high speed intake ports, by providing a flow control valve in the bypass passage of a throttle valve. CONSTITUTION:A low speed helical intake port 6a and high speed intake port 6b are formed in a cylinder head 3. A flow control valve 32 is provided in a bypass passage 31 of a throttle valve 24 and opened when speed of an engine is at least prescribed speed. At this time, low speed and high speed intake valves 5a and 5b are almost synchronously open-close controlled. In this way, high charging efficiency can be ensured for the engine at high speed and high load operation, while a swirl flow in a combustion chamber can be weakened at high speed low load operation, then blown-off action of firing flame can be blocked, thus a change of torque can be suppressed.
