Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a liquid crystal display cell which is low in bulk and light weight, by providing a transparent and electrically conductive film on one surface of a fluor oplastic film having optical transparency. CONSTITUTION:A substrate for a liquid crystal display cell is obtained by providing a layer treated by sputter etching, on one surface of a fluor oplastic film having optical transparency (example : ethylene tetrafluoride-propylene hexafluoride copolymer), and also providing a transparent conductive film of 60- 2,000Angstrom thick, consisting of an oxide of metallic indium and metallic tin, etc., on the other surface. Subsequently, on the surface of this substrate where the transparent conductive film is not provided, a polarization plate consisting of a polarizer of 5-50mu thick and a surface protective layer is provided. In this way, the cell itself does not cause chemical changes due to influence of liquid crystal composition, also the liquid crystal composition is not contaminated by moisture since the moisture permeability of the film is small, and the whole cell is constituted of a flexible film, therefore, it is made low in bulk and light weight.
