Abstract
PURPOSE:To eliminate abnormal reflection of light at a pattern electrode boundary part by providing a transparent insulating film, which is as thick as a transparent pattern electrode and has the same refractive index, at some part on a substrate other than the electrode, and further, by providing a transparent insulating film for reflection prevention on the electrode and insulating film. CONSTITUTION:In liquid-crystal display device 10 of the twisted nematic field effect driving type, transparent conductive film 2-1 is formed as a pattern electrode on the internal surface of transparent substrate 1-1, transparent insulating film 3 which has thickness d1 equal to that of film 2-1 and the same refractive index is provided at some part other than said film 2-1, and further transparent insulating film 11-1 of thickness d2 for reflection prevention is formed covering film 2-1 and film 3. On counter conductive film 2-2 on counter transparent substrate 1-2, similar transparent insulating film 11-2 may be provided. On external surfaces of substrates 1-1 and 1-2, polarizing plates 7-1 and 7-2 are provided. Consequently, transparent conductive films 2-1 and 2-2 are not seen floating while no electric field is applied and this pattern dispaly part can be seen clearly when an electric field is applied.
