PURPOSE:To form a liquid cell, having superior characteristics without an evil influence of ultraviolet rays upon a liquid-crystal material, easily at a low cost, by forming an insulating layer for liquid-crystal orientation by dispersing an ultravioletrays absorber. CONSTITUTION:On glass substrate 1 provided with transparent conductive film 3 made of indium oxide, etc., orienting insulating film 7 of about 3,000Angstrom in film thickness made of epoxy resin (preferably of epi-bis system) having an about 10% dispersed and mixed ultraviolet-rays absorber [e.g., 2(2'-hydroxy-5'-methyl phenyl)-benzylidyne triazole] is formed, and this substrate is used to constitute a liquid- crystal cell. The above-mentioned method is effective specially to a liquid cell having no polarizing plate (guest-host type liquid-crystal cell, DSM liquid-crystal cell, etc.).
