Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain the thin, flexible and highly hermetic liquid crystal display element by sandwiching the microcapsules sealed with liquid crystals by flexible substrates.
CONSTITUTION: Microcapsule materials M having the quality of optical isotropy such as macromolecular organic compound are interspersed in mist form between the polar plates being applied with a strong magnetic field or electric field E. Next, liquid crystal particles LC are dropped between the polar plates E, by which the liquid-crystal-containing microcapsules 2 are obtained. The capsules 2 are sandwiched between two sheets of transparent flexible resin films 1, 1' provided with conductive films on the surfaces, thence polarizing plates 3, 3' and reflecting plate or scattering plate 4 are provided to manufacture the flexible liquid crystal display. If those having polarizing characteristics are used for the films 1, 1', the element may be made further thinner. This yields the thin and flexible display element.
