Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve the appearance of a liquid crystal display panel which uses high molecular material of crystalline substance as substrates by specifying the directivity of the substrates.
CONSTITUTION: The result of biaxial orientation produces the projection orientation CC' of the incident light which has least rotatory polarization to linear polarization and is highest in transmittance of diagonal incident light, in polyester. The upper panel substrate 1 and lower panel substrate 2 which have undergone orientation treatment respectively in the direction 5 rectangular to the direction CC' and in the direction 6 parallel to the direction CC' so constitute the liquid cell that the directions 5, 6 intersect perpendicularly. An upper polarizing plate 3 which has the polarization direction 7 parallel to the direction CC' is provided on the substrate 1 and a lower polarizing plate 4 which has the polarization direction 8 rectangular to the direction CC' is provided under substrate 2. The direction where the use frequencies of this liquid crystal display panel are highest is the arrow 9 which is parallel to the direction CC'. Thereby, the liquid crystal display panel of high transmittances concerning the portions of the panel where no electric field is applied may be obtained.
