Abstract
PURPOSE: To produce ultra-thin type device to be applicable for electronic watch or the like, by bonding the polarizing film of TN-type liquid crystal device to the liquid crystal side of a substrate, providing a protective film thereon, and forming a transparent electrode on the protective film.
CONSTITUTION: For example, in a display device of an electronic watch, a partition plate 10 to conceal the end part of liquid crystal display device is provided in the lower side of windshield glass 9 with a step 29 provided, and a liquid crystal cell 20 is constituted between this plate and a reflecting plate 28. A polarizing film 21 is adhered to the lower side of the glass 9, and protective film of polyurethane or the like is spread on the film 21, and a transparent electrode 24 is formed by ion plating method. By spreading polyvinyl alcohol or the like on the electrode 24, and orientation layer 26 is formed, and is oriented by rubbing or other method. The reflecting plate 28 is plated with silver on metal plate, and polarizing film 22, transparent electrode 25, and orientation layer 27 are provided thereon. The glass 9 and plate 28 are joined together with adhesive 23 which also works as spacer, thus forming a liquid crystal cell 20, which is sealed with TN-type liquid crystal layer 4. By spreading water vapor resistance resin 15, the cell 20 and circuit substrate 11 are connected with conductive elastomer 14.
