Abstract

PURPOSE: To enable to supply a sufficient amount of cooling water into a motor case, by providing a back-flow preventing means at a portion of a fluid passage in the motor case of an internal pump used for circulating nuclear reactor cooling medium.
CONSTITUTION: When a shaft 4 is set into rotation and cooling water is supplied forcedly by an auxiliary impeller 3, water tends to flow reversely from a water chamber A to a water chamber B but it is prevented by a back-flow preventing means 19. At the time when operation of a pump is stopped, temperature of the pump is raised by the heat transmitted from a pressure vessel of a nuclear reactor, with the temperature rise being greater toward above, and water is made to flow from the water chamber B to water chamber A by way of natural convection, so that the back-flow preventing means 19 is not operated. Therefore, a sufficient amount of cooling water flows as shown by dotted lines in the drawing by way of natural convection, by-passing small gaps in bearings, so that heat transmitted from the pressure vessel of the nuclear reactor can be absorbed by the cooling water.
