Abstract

NEW MATERIAL:A compound of formulaI(R is alkyl of 4 or more carbon atoms).
EXAMPLE: n-Butyl-β-D-mannofuranoside.
USE: It is used as a medicine, because of its antiallergic and carcinostatic activities. It shows no side-effects which are observed in general immunosuppressives such as suppression of immunogloblins including Ig G or Ig M.
PREPARATION: The reaction of D-mannose of formula II with an alkyl alcohol of formula III (butanol, methyl alcohol, pentanol) is conducted in the presence of a mineral acid such as sulfuric or hydrochloric acid or an organic acid such as formic or acetic acid at room temperature, when necessary, under heating to give the compound of formulaI.
