Abstract
PURPOSE:To prevent the occurrence of blow holes, remelting cracks, etc. and to form a wear resistant layer by remelting a specified part of a gray cast iron product contg. a specified amount of C, Si, Mn, P and S together with crystallized eutectic, E type or D type graphite so as to crystallize cementite. CONSTITUTION:A product made of gray cast iron contg., by wt., 3-3.6% C, 1.5-2.4% Si, 0.5-0.8% Mn, <0.1% P and <0.15% S together with crystallized eutectic, E type or D type graphite is manufactured. A part of the product requiring wear resistance is remelted using a high energy source such as laser, inert gaseous are or electron beams, and its peripheral part is allowed to act as a chilling block. As a result, cementite is crystallized in the remelted part, and a layer with a high wear resistance is obtd.
