Abstract

1499290 White cast iron NORANDA MINES Ltd 10 Dec 1976 [13 Sept 1976] 51687/76 Heading C7A A wear-resistant low alloy white cast iron, suitable as ore grinding balls, with a high hardness consists of C 2-4 Si 0À3-1À5 Mn 0À5-1À5 Cu 0À5-1À5 Mo 0À25-1À0 Fe Balance plus usual impurities. The alloy is produced by normal melting, casting into molds (sand or chill) and removing at >750 C prior to quenching at a rate of 2-15‹C/sec. The castings are then heat treated at 200-400‹C (pref. 260‹C) for 1-8 hrs (pref. 4 hrs) to produce a carbide and martenite structure with optimum hardness and wear resistance.
